Picnic at Rockley Memorial Park with a live band, a few stalls from local organisations and nature based games for children

Address: Rockley Memorial Park

Start time: 14:00

History:
Radcliffe on Trent's "Picnic in the Park" has been a recurring community event for over 10 years, hosted by the Parish Council at the Rockley Memorial Park.
The annual gathering typically features live bands, a few local stalls run by community groups, and children's nature-based games.
The event has helped mark special celebrations happening around the same time, depending on the current events that year, for example the king's coronation in 2023 or the D-Day 80th anniversary in 2024.

Rockley Memorial Park has a deeply moving history that is woven into the very fabric of Radcliffe-on-Trent.
The park and the spectacular Cliff Walk were generously gifted to the Parish Council on 15th October 1927 by local resident Lisle Rockley. He created this beautiful green space as a
permanent "living memorial" to his son, Lieutenant William Lisle Rockley, and to all the brave local men who tragically lost their lives during the Great War.

Today, the memorial pavilion and the unique collection of trees stand as a lasting tribute to their memory. By gathering here every year for Picnic in the Park, we continue to celebrate the vibrant community spirit they fought to protect.

FAQ:

IS THE EVENT FREE TO ATTEND?

Yes! There is absolutely no entry fee to get into Picnic in the Park. It is fully funded and organised by your Parish Council to bring the community together.

CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD AND DRINK?

You certainly can. Picnics are incredibly welcome! Feel free to pack a cooler with your favourite summer treats and refreshments to enjoy on the grass.

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO PARK?

There is no parking available on-site at Rockley Memorial Park, and surrounding residential roads can get very congested.
We strongly encourage village residents to walk or cycle down to the park instead. It's the greenest, easiest way to get here, and we have space where you can securely leave your bikes.
If you do need to drive, please use one of these two routes: via the Village Centre: Park in the village centre public car parks and enjoy the stroll up Shelford Road to the park, or via the Recreation Ground: Park down at the Wharf Lane Recreation Ground (by the skate park) and walk up the scenic Cliff Path.

⚠ Important Note: The Cliff Path route includes steps and steep sections. It is not suitable for prams, wheelchairs, or anyone with walking difficulties.

IS THE SITE ACCESSIBLE FOR WHEELCHAIRS AND PRAMS?

Yes, but please ensure you use the correct entrance! The main accessible entrance is via Park Road, which offers smooth, tarmac pathways leading directly into the main event area. Please avoid the Cliff Path route if you have a pram or mobility restrictions, as it contains steps.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY RUBBISH?

We love our park and want to keep it looking beautiful. While there are bins on-site, they fill up incredibly fast at large events. Please help our wonderful volunteer tidy-up crews by bagging up your litter and taking your rubbish home with you to recycle. Let’s leave the park spotless!

ARE DOGS ALLOWED?

Well-behaved four-legged friends on leads are very welcome to join the fun! As the park will be very busy, please just ensure your dog is comfortable with crowds and that you clear up after them.

WILL THERE BE TOILETS ON-SITE?

Yes! Unlike some outdoor events, Rockley Park is equipped with a permanent, on-site public toilet, as well as temporary portable toilet facilities which will be open and available for the duration of the event.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE BRITISH WEATHER LETS US DOWN?

Fingers crossed for glorious June sunshine! However, the party will go ahead in light rain—so pack an umbrella just in case. If truly severe weather is forecast that causes a safety concern, we will post urgent updates right here on the website and across our social media channels.
