Flooding update at Wharf Lane Recreation Ground

The Radcliffe on Trent Parish Council and a representative from Radcliffe Olympic met with engineers yesterday at the Wharf Lane Recreation Ground to find out why the flooding has not cleared after six weeks. The engineers have confirmed that the water is natural rainwater rather than sewage, but believe it is currently not draining because of a blockage in an underground drainage pipe, known as a culvert.

Even though the River Trent has dropped, the water on our fields isn’t moving, so we are working closely with Nottinghamshire County Council and we are waiting for Severn Trent to provide a map of the drainage systems. Once we have this map, we will need to carry out further investigation and will hopefully be able to identify exactly who is responsible for clearing the blockage so the land can finally dry out and be ready for football again.

We have scheduled a meeting with Nottinghamshire County Council Flood Risk Management team to discuss next steps. The playgrounds remain open but we would strongly advise residents to avoid the flooded football pitch.

We will keep residents informed.
